Have you ever had an employee that has been off work for a period of time and they are now due back to work but you want to check that they are well enough to do their job correctly? The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has published guidance for employers about the new Fit for Work scheme. Fit for Work will enable employers in England, Wales and Scotland to refer employees who have been on sick leave for at least four weeks for a free occupational health assessment. It also provides a free telephone advice service for employers. The guidance encourages employers to update their sickness policies to reflect the availability of this new service. The advice line opened in December 2014 and health assessments are expected to be rolled out over the next couple of months. We all know that everyone treads very carefully in this water so please make sure you take up this free service from DWP so that they can help you and your employees make the right decisions. If you need any advice regarding your employee going on the sick for any reason and to calculate if they are entitled to Statutory Sick Pay please contact me on 01229 490 231 REMEMBER     – Statutory sick pay is now at a cost to the employer and can no longer be reclaimed back from HMRC ( April 2014 ) Please follow this link for more information https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/fit-for-work-guidance-for-employers Have a good weekend Kelly
