This is step by step guide on claiming the furlough payments if you are needing to do it yourself.

If you have a payroll agent, such as TI Accountancy we will be doing this for you, however, there are points in the guidelines I wanted to make you aware of:

  • The Furlough is being paid into a UK bank account and therefore we need your bank details before we can make a claim.
  • We can only make one claim per period and therefore we must have all payroll details for entire company at once, we cannot do an employee at a time.
  • HMRC has said it will take on average 6 working days for the payments to come through.
  • We cannot make changes once the claim is done.
  • You will not receive an email from HMRC once we make a claim, we will however get a confirmation number which we will share with you once the claim is successful.

The step by step guide for claiming furlough payments hasn’t made it clear what “per period” means, and as we can only make one claim per period, We have to wait until Monday to find out which weeks we can claim for.

It alludes to only being March in the section where it shows workings out, however, it also says you can only make one claim during a period and you should do this while you are doing the payroll.

Therefore as we are to make an April claim while doing the April payroll (which would make sense) we’re doing two claims in one month .. so I’ll let you know as soon as we do, I just wanted to get information out to you today so you are prepared.
