I came across a heartwarming story that I wanted to share with you…

A fan posted this message to JK Rowling on Twitter:

“@jk_rowling This may get lost in the noise but what would you say to someone who has failed to find meaning and wants to finally give up?”

Her response?

She told them to look at three pictures and commented:

“I’d say, the world is full of wonderful things that you haven’t seen yet. Don’t ever give up on the chance of seeing them.”

Now the reason this got to me is that JK is a billionaire. And yet by posting this message, she’s made a real difference to one of her fan’s lives.

She could have ignored the message. After all, I bet she has thousands of messages from Harry Potter fans every single day.

But she didn’t. She chose to respond. She knows that her fans are the reason she’s so successful. And even though she’s made millions from all things Harry Potter, she continues to support and respond to her fans.

She keeps that relationship alive and going. She doesn’t need to. JK has made more money than she’ll ever need but she values the importance of her fans because they’re the ones who made her.

And it should be the same in your business. Your customers are the reason you are where you are today. But often, business owners neglect their current customers in search of new ones. But if they focussed on the relationship with their recent customers, they’d likely buy from you again.

Hats off to JK, she certainly knows how to maintain a strong relationship with her fan base.
